Steve, alongside Frank, created ib3 in 1999. Specialising in the technical side of the business, Steve oversees the design and development of engaging websites and applications, creative email marketing, and social media campaigns. So, apart from ensuring top class digital delivery, what is Steve all about?

What is your perfect weekend?

Something quiet and peaceful. A relaxing couple of days on the coast I think.

Where is your favourite place in the world?

One of the most interesting places that I have had the pleasure of visiting is Hong Kong. I would fully recommend all to go, wonderful place

If you could be one age for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

32. Old enough to be taken seriously, but young enough to not have to be!

Last book your read and film you watched and would recommend?

Book: ‘Behind Closed Doors’ Good book, bit of a psychological thriller, gets you thinking. Give it a go!

Film: ‘Chocolat’ Enjoyed it Dame Judi and Johnny Depp are great in it. Basically, a chocolate shop in France, next to a church, the shop’s open on a Sunday and the story unfolds.

I’d recommend them both!

Who is your inspiration?

Steve Jobs. An exceptional thinker and an individual who has driven the world of technology forward. Unique.

What is most adventurous thing you’ve done?

I had the great pleasure of island hopping across Greece. Adventurous, great fun and wonderful memories.

If you had to eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Chicken Madras. Delicious!

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing that you would buy?

A holiday. A very long, luxurious holiday.

What is creativity to you?

The ability to convey a massage, beautifully.

A fantastic designer and queen of ‘The Wildcard’, Michelle is one of our senior designers here at ib3. Living locally with two children and her husband, Michelle is a firm believer in thinking outside of the box and posing a question for all of our clients!

Let’s find out a little more

What is your perfect weekend?

I love to walk, so for me it would be going out with my walking club, stopping off for a pub lunch (mid-way of course, or maybe slightly earlier!) Then getting home, cooking a nice evening meal and eating it! Quite a lot of food involved!

Where is your favourite place in the world?

I loved visiting Thailand and would fully recommend to everyone. Enjoyed the warm weather, the great people and of course the food!

If you could be one age for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

I’d say 30 I think. Before I had kids (who I love dearly) when I could go travelling with my husband.

Last book your read and film you watched and would recommend?

Film: ‘Blade Runner’ was the last film I watched as a reminder before the second film comes out (it’s released very soon and I’m excited)

Book: ‘Friend Request’ by Lara Marshall. She is a local Tonbridge mum and a fantastic author. I’m in a local book club so get to enjoy a variety of books and this was certainly a good read.

Who is your inspiration?

It’s not just one person. My mum, my husband Elliot and my two boys. They give me the inspiration for what I do everyday.

What is most adventurous thing you’ve done?

There’s a few things, but I can’t choose. I’ve been canoeing down the Ardelle River, jumped off cliffs in Ibiza (into water!), walked a marathon over the Seven Sisters and most recently started standing on my head in yoga!

If you had to eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Apples!

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing that you would buy?

A Goldendoodle. Once I’ve bought the dog, we’d need a bigger house so I’d build that, designed by husband of course.

What is creativity to you?

Thinking differently or solving visual puzzles to communicate an idea. It always needs to look nice as well!

Wayne joined ib3 earlier in the year and has been a fantastic addition to the team. If I were to describe Wayne in one word, for me it would be chilled. No matter what he is faced with, Wayne has a great ability to keep calm and break down the most complex of challenges in to manageable tasks. Combine this personality with a wealth of knowledge on multiple coding platforms, Wayne is a real asset to the team!

So, who is he?

What is your perfect weekend?

Well, I’ve got two dogs and I love the seaside…so, the seaside with the dogs! Throw in an ice cream maybe, sounds alright to me.

Where is your favourite place in the world?

I’ve spoken to everyone about this. They’ve mentioned far flung destinations from South Africa to Cuba. For me it’s simply my sofa from 9pm onward. Perfect!

If you could be one age for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Probably 24 or 25. My group of friends were amazing. Fun and very creative!

Last book your read and film you watched and would recommend?

Film: Can I say TV program rather than film? Because I’ve been watching Westworld. Brilliant series about robots becoming self-aware.

Book: ‘Lumen Developer Guide’

Would I recommend? Well Westworld was great but the Lumen Development Guide lacked the vision of a dystopian future I tend to look for in art!

Who is your inspiration?

Dad.

What is most adventurous thing you’ve done?

(For anyone who knows Wayne, you will probably know his story. If you want to find out, you’re best asking Wayne himself! He was young and adventurous, let’s leave it there!)

If you had to eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Everyday? Something light!

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing that you would buy?

My youth! Is it possible to buy that back yet?

What is creativity to you?

Where is your favourite place in the world?

I haven’t travelled a great deal but I loved South Africa, particularly the Shamwari Game Reserve, just heaven. So fascinating to see the wild animals in their own environment. Beautiful landscapes, great food and lovely people.

If you could be one age for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

What a scary thought! Ekkkkk! I live in the now not the past or stuck in a moment. Can I pass please?

Last book your read and film you watched and would recommend?

Film: Gerard’s Game (Netflix) – It was good, I’m not normally fond of thriller/horror but this was a good watch.

Book: ‘All the light we cannot see’ by Anthony Doerr. I have a love for history (especially modern history) so this tale set in world war 2 is right up my street.

Sleeping in (never happens), a long lunch in a nice restaurant, visiting somewhere new and exciting (preferably outdoors) with time left over for reading and maybe a film at the cinema!

Where is your favourite place in the world?

I’ve got to say Barbados. Amazing part of the world!

If you could be one age for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Last book your read and film you watched and would recommend?

Well, my favourite book is Camino Island written by John Grisham. I’d thoroughly recommend getting a copy. Film, I’d say Patriot’s Day. Well worth a watch, however it is rather depressing. I warned you!

Who is your inspiration?

Most definitely my parents.

What is most adventurous thing you’ve done?

I’ve had some fantastic times in America. The most adventurous of these would be the helicopter flight that I took over the Grand Canyon. Unreal experience.

Firstly, I’d like to thank Ant Middleton for the inspiration to write this blog. For anyone who doesn’t know who Ant is, he is the ex-SAS soldier who is now on TV doing fantastic programs such as SAS Who dares wins, Escape and Mutiny.

Last week I attended an event and Ant spoke about team work, the power of the individual and how it influences the results of a team, go and see him when you get the chance! Anyway, this got me thinking about our own team at ib3 and how we operate as a unit but also, more importantly, how we integrate within other teams.

Our Strength is Our Dynamism

We are not a ‘jack-of-all trades’ kind of agency, we specialise in three areas; design and brand creative, technical development and campaign generation. Now, these areas are very diverse and we see this as a fantastic strength. We have three specialist teams, with three specialist skill sets but we don’t work in silos. We learn from each other, we develop new thinking, we constantly evolve to ensure that we are dynamic and contemporary. Does this happen with in your business? If not, can it? We pride ourselves on having very strong, specialist individuals. The sum of this team is far greater than the individual parts. That’s because we have a very inquisitive and supportive business culture.

Three Specialisms, One Team

We are not just a PPC agency, or a web development agency or a design agency, we encompass all of this, but with no loss of quality, experience or expertise. How do we do this? Simple, by having the best, highly motivated, empowered team members who don’t settle for anything less than the outstanding. The benefit of having such strong, influential colleagues is that the pace of learning and the resource available to us is superior. A result of this is the ability to think ‘outside the box’. There are no stupid questions at ib3. We promote and inquisitive nature in our team, if you don’t ask, how will you ever know the answer? What we love is web developers asking graphic designers for advice. PPC managers running ideas past web designers. That’s how we improve.

Integration

The above culture of learning, challenging and adaption is not only integral to our team, but also to how we work with our clients. Integration with our clients is vital, it’s the most important part of what we do. We are, in some ways, an extension of their own marketing team and as such we are a member of that team. This leads me on to the point…finally!

Choose Your Agency As If You’re Choosing A New Team Member

When you’re looking for an agency, it’s quite difficult I suppose. Who offers the best service? Who has the most initiative? Which agency has the greatest impact? etc. But for us, one of the most important factors to consider, is can the agency slot into your business and add value? Will they push and promote your team in the right direction? This separates great agencies from good agencies.

To summarise, we are firm believers in the power of our team. A team with very differing expertise, that come together to be simply outstanding!

Thanks for reading.

If you could be one age for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Wow that is real tough one. Having two children, I would never want my life without them.
But I would say 21. Life was very simple, no pressures and no stresses.
I had just met my now wife and building our relationship was a great time.
Oh yes, the sun shone every single day then as well!!

Last book your read and film you watched and would recommend?

I am neither a great reader of books nor an avid film fan.
However, the books I do like to read are autobiographies; the last one was David Jason – My Life on Screen.
I had to think really hard about great films. I remember watching Silence of the Lambs in a New York hotel.
A great film.

Who is your inspiration?

My father was a hard worker who provided for our family, and was always there for us.
I would be proud to be just a little like him.

The Atherton Tablelands in Queensland, Australia.
